Annette Herbert, Q4, 2013-2014 Winner of the Carol Fletter Staff Recognition Award

Annette Herbert.jpg

Annette has been a part of the counseling department in the Moraga School District for a total of 18 years.  She is very proud of her involvement in SSA, WEB, and ikind.  Her colleagues praised her when nominating her for this award as “tireless and incredibly passionate, kind and able to give endless support to many kids.”  Annette is honored to do her work which makes her most happy when she helps students feel “safe and happy at school.”  She is especially honored to work with a staff that stimulates her intellectually and functions on a very high level.  She believes her role is as a problem solver and advocate for kids.  In addition, she plays a vital role as an intermediary between parents, teachers and the student. Many of you will not be surprised to know that her passion is her music which is an intrinsic part of her well-being. There are not enough words of praise for Annette, but it is true when we think of kindness, we think of Annette and her humor, smile and whole hearted approach to everything and everyone at JM.   You are a wonder, Annette!

Karlene Steelman, Q4, 2013-2014 Winner of the Carol Robak Teacher Recognition Award

Karlene Steelman.jpg

Karlene is finishing up her 10th year at JM. She is the backbone of the Math department and is valued highly for also helping out all other departments.  Karlene is proud of how well the Math department has come together around Common Core and also as a unit.  Colleagues noted that Karlene is always “helpful, creative, and thinks outside of the box about what is best for all students.”  She is instrumental in managing the ipads and was vital in the implementation of the SBAC this spring.  Karlene is thankful for the support of her colleagues because anytime something goes wrong she has a group of people to help solve the problem and encourage her to do her best. Sharing the school with Charlie gives Karlene great joy.  And lastly,  did you know that Karlene lived in Korea for three years?  She photobombed many a picture because she was that rare blond child that every Korean family wanted in their family photo.  Thank you, Karlene!
